A recent survey has unveiled a strong public opinion on pavement parking – and it’s time for a change! Nearly 83% of drivers are urging the government to take action, but they’re divided on the approach. While London and Scotland have already banned it, the rest of the UK is still waiting for a solution.

Over two-thirds of respondents say they frequently encounter cars parked on pavements, forcing pedestrians, including those with pushchairs or wheelchairs, into the streets. This is more than just an inconvenience—it’s a safety hazard!
**🚦 What do drivers want?**
– **42%** support an outright ban in England.
– **41%** prefer councils to have more power to tackle the issue locally.
– Only **13%** believe pavement parking shouldn’t be banned at all.
Rod Dennis from the RAC called it a “serious problem,” emphasising that no one should be pushed onto the road due to inconsiderate parking. It’s essential to balance controlling parking with preventing unnecessary street blockage.
Rachel Toms from the charity Sustrans suggested that England should follow Scotland and London’s lead, granting councils the power to enforce restrictions. This move could significantly impact the vulnerable, creating a safer environment for everyone.
The government is listening and promises to review this pressing issue, hoping to make travelling easier and more accessible throughout the country.
