Leisha Pengelly has courageously shared her harrowing journey of survival after enduring a toxic relationship that turned violent. Once considering Paul Hallisey the “perfect family man,” everything changed when Leisha became pregnant. Hallisey’s controlling and abusive behaviour escalated, ultimately leading to a devastating incident where he raped her in her own bed.
“He’s a coward and a bully,” Leisha bravely stated, adding how his narcissistic nature preyed on her vulnerability. After enduring emotional and physical abuse, she was isolated and deeply troubled, hitting rock bottom with her mental health at one point.
Despite being terrified, Leisha found the strength to speak out. Hallisey denied his actions but was ultimately sentenced to nearly a decade in prison. “I felt relieved when the verdict was ‘guilty,'” she shared, reflecting on the support she received from authorities that helped her justice journey.
Leisha’s story doesn’t end there. Today, she is engaged and expecting a child with a new partner, having taken control of her life and regained her happiness. Her story serves as a beacon of hope and empowerment for others trapped in abusive relationships.
