But we’re not in the clear just yet! This crucial plan is pending approval and funding from the Welsh Government. Bob Fenwick from the council mentioned it’s been a tough journey crafting the design and business case, but the funding bid has just been submitted!

The proposed upgrades include stream widening, installing a new culvert, adding stone-filled gabions, and revamping trash screens. Meanwhile, council teams have been hard at work ensuring the stream flows without causing harm during downpours. Thanks to these efforts, this winter has been much easier on residents.

Fun fact: Did you know that the council is also eyeing more projects, like in West Street, Gorseinon, to keep our streets dry? 🚧

The council isn’t just stopping at flood management. They’re equipping Swansea University students with insights into flood management as a career, tackling the national shortage of drainage engineers.
