A normal night turned dangerous at Tesco Express in Newport when 19-year-old Blake Williams tried stealing sweets and soft drinks. Things got tense when a shop worker, Darshan Deorukhar, confronted him and knocked the basket from his hands. In response, Williams lashed out with a screwdriver saying, “Don’t try and stop me, watch me!”

Williams also pulled out a knife, sending everyone into panic mode. Despite the chaos, he managed to escape with £27 worth of treats. Thankfully, Mr Deorukhar only suffered a bruise, yet the fear and anxiety linger for him.

With a list of past offenses like robbery and theft, Williams pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including possession of offensive weapons. His chaotic upbringing and personal struggles were noted in court but weren’t enough to keep him out of detention. Williams is now set to spend 27 months in a young offenders’ institute.
