A young man breaks down in court as jaw-dropping footage reveals his high-speed escape from police. Dayton Withers, only 20, was caught in a nerve-wracking 85mph chase near Blackwood after failing to stop for officers due to non-working lights. As the gripping scenes played out in Cardiff Crown Court, Withers couldn’t hold back tears, overwhelmed by his reckless choices.

This wasn’t a simple case of speeding. Withers zoomed through red lights, ignored road signs, and even drove the wrong way down a one-way street. The chase ended dramatically when his van collided with a police car, inflicting serious damage.

Why did he run? Panic hit when police approached, knowing his licence had been revoked. After testing positive for cannabis at the scene, Withers confessed to dangerous driving, drug driving, and being on the road without a licence or insurance.

Despite having no past convictions, the judge didn’t mince words, slamming his driving as “atrocious”. While no injuries miraculously resulted, the potential for disaster was sky-high. Withers received a 12-month detention in a young offenders’ institution, suspended for 18 months, along with a driving ban for two years.
His lawyer described the incident as “complete madness”, stating it was entirely out of character for Withers, who now expresses deep remorse. Alongside his sentence, Withers must complete 200 hours of unpaid work and undergo a rehabilitation programme.
A sobering reminder to think twice behind the wheel! 🚗💨
