**Chilling Night in Cardiff: Woman Attacked**

CCTV footage has surfaced capturing the unnerving moments before a woman was attacked on a night out in Cardiff. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of May 12, 2024, involved Fawaz Alsamaou, an asylum seeker, who was seen casually roaming Pulse nightclub before stalking his victim.

Alsamaou, 33, was spotted wearing a gilet, white t-shirt, and jeans as he navigated the LGBTQ+ venue. The footage reveals him carefully observing his surroundings and following the unsuspecting woman as she left the club. He trailed her closely from the city centre to the Cathays area without her knowing.
The attack occurred under a railway bridge near Salisbury Road. Around 4am, Alsamaou strangled the woman and sexually assaulted her. Displaying incredible bravery, she managed to fend him off and immediately contacted the police.
Aided by CCTV and a Crimewatch appeal, the police identified Alsamaou, who was later arrested in Huddersfield. He confessed to the assault and intentional strangulation, resulting in a sentencing at Newport Crown Court. Judge Celia Hughes handed him a 37-month prison sentence and noted the likelihood of deportation post-sentence.
The impact of the harrowing event is significant. The victim’s statement revealed ongoing trauma, highlighting how the incident disrupted her life and mental health. “I’m always looking over my shoulder… I can barely sleep and I have nightmares,” she shared, illustrating the profound effects of such an attack.
