In a shocking case of domestic abuse that has left a woman traumatised, Anthony Webb, 36, from Cwmbran, has been sentenced to three years and three months for a terrifying year-long campaign of violence and control against his partner. The couple’s once happy relationship took a dark turn in January 2023, as Webb’s behaviour became increasingly abusive.

During a trip to Scotland, an argument erupted, marking the beginning of a nightmare for the victim. Things escalated as Webb threatened to “crash this car and kill us both” while on a drive back to Wales. The harassment didn’t stop at threats—Webb physically attacked her multiple times, including twisting her ankle to the brink of breaking and violently hitting her. The abuse was relentless, with daily verbal assaults and threats to her life and well-being.

The desperation and fear led the victim to a breaking point, even contemplating ending her own life. In a distressing incident, Webb encouraged her to “go hang herself,” which she nearly did. Despite all this, her pleas for help were met with further aggression, leaving her feeling isolated and trapped.
Webb’s volatile behaviour extended beyond private spaces. At a social event, he stamped on her ankle, forcing friends to intervene. Despite attempts to escape, his manipulation and threats left her paralysed with fear.
Thanks to her courage and the intervention of her adult daughter, Webb was finally arrested. He had 29 previous convictions, some involving similar violence against other partners. With a history of mental health struggles, including bipolar disorder and PTSD, Webb’s defence claimed these issues contributed to his actions, though the court remained firm.
Judge Paul Hobson, during sentencing, highlighted the profound impact on the victim’s life, noting how Webb’s actions had transformed her from a happy, strong woman to one filled with anxiety and fear. The Judge granted an indefinite restraining order to protect the victim.
