Since an experimental traffic order (ETO) was approved in September 2025, streets like Queen Street, Dunraven Place, and Market Street have been restricted to traffic from 10am to 6pm. This has led to a maze of rules, with drivers being fined when a key bollard malfunctioned.

Cllr Williams highlighted the widespread confusion about zone access and signage, mentioning that mixed messages have left drivers in a pickle! Even though some changes have been planned, including extending loading times and adding blue badge parking, many residents remain bewildered. 🚦

The council’s leader, Cllr John Spanswick, acknowledged the mix-up but clarified that reversing fines isn’t within councillors’ powers. Meanwhile, Cllr Eugene Caparros encouraged fined drivers to appeal if they think they have a good reason.

There’s hope on the horizon, though. New road signs are expected to roll out when the experimental order finally takes effect, promising clearer guidance for everyone. 🤞
