๐ Big Changes Coming to Bridgend Town Centre! ๐

Exciting news for Bridgend! Major updates to the town centre’s traffic plan have been approved, aiming to shake things up. ๐ง Starting with an extension of opening hours for certain streets, shoppers, and residents will see more flexibility. Queen Street, Dunraven Place, and Market Street are some of the areas getting a revamp, meaning fewer bollards and more access!

But that’s not all. ๐ดโโ๏ธ Cyclists may soon peddle through pedestrian zones, and blue badge holders will find more parking bays in these areas. Plus, taxis will see better access, making getting around just that bit easier.
This change comes after local shop owners eagerly called for more traffic flow in the area. While itโs a step in the right direction, some believe there’s still room for improvement. A safety assessment is on the cards to explore if more cycling can happen safely, and the possibility of eventually extending vehicle access is being looked into.
Councillors, including Cllr Neelo Farr, have acknowledged this is just the starting point. ๐ค โWeโve listened to what people want and while it might not cover everything yet, weโre making sure itโs safe, practical, and compliant,โ she noted.
The experimental traffic order will roll out over 18 months, being closely watched and refined. This pilot scheme is seen by some as a missed opportunity to fully welcome back general traffic, but it certainly sets the stage for future transformations.
What do you think, Bridgend? Are these changes enough, or do you want to see more? ๐ค Drop your thoughts in the comments below! โฌ๏ธ
