Tragedy has struck in Mansfield as an elderly woman has passed away after suffering a fall due to a pothole. Beryl Barrett, in her 80s, fell on Christmas Day when her walking stick got trapped in a pothole, breaking her hip. Steve Yemm, the local MP, highlighted this incident during Prime Minister’s Questions, urging immediate road improvements in the area. Our thoughts are with Mrs Barrett’s family during this challenging time.

The loss has sparked a growing call for action, with thousands of potholes reportedly plaguing the roads of Mansfield. Nottinghamshire County Council is now under scrutiny as local residents and officials demand urgent repairs. A petition has been launched, supported by Beryl’s family and friends, aiming to address these hazardous road conditions.

The Warsop Parish Council has expressed their condolences and reiterated their commitment to pushing for better local road maintenance. A significant number of residents gathered at a recent council meeting to voice their concerns, and a minute’s silence was held to honour Mrs Barrett’s memory.
While the Parish Council doesn’t hold legal authority over road repairs, they have pledged to continue advocating for residents’ safety with the county council. Meanwhile, Nottinghamshire Council expressed their sadness over the incident, affirming that any reports of injuries on local roads are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.
Let’s hope this tragic event brings about the much-needed change and prevents future incidents. Share your thoughts and let’s keep the conversation going. Stay safe on the roads! 🌸 #CommunityCare #SaferRoads #MansfieldFamilies
