Tragic news from the A48 near Marshfield – Clive Rogers, a passionate cyclist, lost his life in a heartbreaking accident. Clive, 51, and his wife Emma were returning home from a friend’s house when disaster struck. Emma was cycling just behind him when a car, driven by 76-year-old Pauline Parnell, hit Clive, sending him into the air like a “rag doll.”

Emma watched in horror as Clive lay motionless on the road, dressed in his festive elf costume and Santa hat. Despite the best efforts of medical teams, Clive passed away at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. His tragic accident was witnessed by several onlookers who noted that the Mini Cooper did not seem to slow down before the collision.

Emma’s personal statement during the sentencing was heart-wrenching, describing the moment as a “bomb going off” and expressing the immeasurable loss of her beloved husband. The couple, who ran an animal sanctuary together and had travelled to over 50 countries, shared 23 wonderful years. Emma spoke of their dreams and how their lives were filled with love, laughter, and shared passions.
Pauline Parnell has been sentenced to 15 months in prison, suspended for two years, and disqualified from driving for three years. She confessed to causing death by careless driving and expressed genuine remorse.
No sentence can equal the value of Clive’s life, but the tragedy is a somber reminder to us all about the importance of road safety and the fragility of life. Clive’s memory lives on through his friends, family, and all the animals he cared for so deeply. 💔🚴♂️
Stay vigilant on the roads and cherish every moment with your loved ones.
