A family’s Boxing Day nightmare unfolded when Sarah Nicholas’ newly-renovated dream home in Tylorstown went up in flames, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Without insurance, Sarah, her partner Gavin, and her son Kenzie watched helplessly as their haven turned into a blazing inferno.
The blaze started from an overheated extension lead to a second fridge in their rear lean-to. Sarah, a mother of three and tanning salon employee, had no idea such a simple oversight in coiling the extension could lead to such devastation. Thankfully, neighbour Paula Lewis raised the alarm, preventing what could have been a much worse outcome.
Despite having no buildings or contents insurance, Sarah finds solace in knowing her family, including their dog Coba, escaped unharmed, although their cherished parakeet didn’t make it. Now temporarily staying with her nephew, Sarah is trying to piece together how to move forward after the shock of losing everything they owned.
