We’re heartbroken to share the tragic news of Corporal Stephen Hughes, a beloved member of the Royal Welsh Regiment, who has passed away at just 25. Known to friends as Steve, he was reported missing from Bethel, Gwynedd and found sadly deceased in the Menai Strait. The news has been met with “deepest sorrow” by his regiment and all who knew him.
Steve was more than just a soldier; he was a “top bloke” and a passionate advocate for mental health. He founded and moderated ‘Lads Advice’, a supportive community for men to openly discuss their struggles and offer each other support. His friend, Nathan Gilbertson, reflects, “25 is too young, mate. Rest easy, brother.”
Authorities have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Cpl Hughes’ death. Chief Inspector Jon Aspinall extended his sympathies to Stephen’s family as they navigate this difficult time.
