๐จ Misleading Hotel Ads Banned! ๐จ

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has cracked down on ads by Travelodge, Hilton, Accor, and Booking.com for exaggerating the number of rooms available at bargain prices. ๐จ๐ธ

These travel giants were promoting room rates with “from” pricing, suggesting lots of rooms were available at the advertised low prices. In reality, just a few rooms were up for grabs at those rates, leaving many disappointed deal hunters frustrated. ๐ค
Booking.com faced scrutiny over an ad promising rooms “From ยฃ28” at easyHotel Sheffield City Centre. While bookings did happen at that rate, ASA found the claim misleading due to lack of consistent availability. Similarly, Accor’s ยฃ27 rooms in Birmingham were only accessible for one specific night, and Hilton couldn’t prove significant availability for advertised rates at certain locations. ๐ท๏ธ๐
According to ASA’s Emily Henwood, customers deserve honesty: “Advertised prices must match whatโs really available. If only a few rooms are offered at the price shown, it must be made clear.” ๐ข
Travelodge has already pulled the flagged ads and emphasised its commitment to transparent pricing. Booking.com echoed a similar stance, asserting their intentions to provide transparent booking info. Accor is also reinforcing their internal processes to adhere to all advertising codes. ๐๏ธ๐ง
Letโs hope other companies follow suit in prioritising clear and honest advertising. After all, who doesnโt love snagging a genuine deal? ๐โ๏ธ
