We are deeply saddened to share the sudden passing of Hefin David, a passionate advocate for the people of Caerphilly and a respected member of the Welsh Labour Party. At 47, Hefin left us unexpectedly on the eve of his birthday, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service.

First Minister Eluned Morgan paid heartfelt tribute, remembering Hefin as a warm, enthusiastic, and outstanding communicator who served with pride and passion. Keir Starmer, the leader of the Opposition, described him as a “powerful voice for the people of Wales.” The loss felt across political aisles showed Hefin’s unique ability to bridge divides and work collaboratively for the good of his constituents.

Hefin’s fellow colleagues spoke fondly of him. Secretary of State for Wales, Jo Stevens, called him a “genuine, clever and caring man,” while Conservative Senedd Member, Tom Giffard, highlighted Hefin’s courage to stand up for his beliefs. Tributes flowed from all corners, including the Welsh Liberal Democrats, represented by Jane Dodds, who extended condolences to his family, particularly his wife, Vikki Howells.

Hefin’s passion for his role saw him tirelessly working for the people of Caerphilly, and he was greatly respected across the Senedd as the Commissioner with responsibility for Finance. His absence will be keenly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
The news of Hefin’s passing serves as a sombre reminder of life’s fragility. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues during this challenging time. Rest in peace, Hefin. Your dedication and spirit will never be forgotten.
