Dragons Put Up a Fight but Ulster Prevail in Belfast Battle!

The Dragons showcased a valiant effort in their United Rugby Championship opener, but came up short against Ulster with a 42-21 loss in Belfast. Right from the start, Aaron Wainwright ignited hope by capitalising on a chaotic Ulster kick-off to score the first try, followed by a deft conversion from Tinus de Beer. The Dragons maintained early pressure, excelling in the scrums and forcing Ulster back with determination.
The visitors kept the crowd on their toes as an artful chip by Angus O’Brien led to Jared Rosser’s corner try, once again converted by de Beer. However, Ulster’s response was swift and powerful, with stars like Stuart McCloskey and Michael Lowry proving challenging for the Dragons’ defence to handle.

Despite a spirited defence and a few close calls, including a disallowed try due to a forward pass, Ulster’s relentless attack saw them score six tries, led by impressive efforts from Cormac Izuchukwu, Nick Timoney, and Tom Stewart.
Shane Lewis-Hughes added a third try for the Dragons in the second half, yet Ulster’s commanding presence, especially from their midfield and wide runners, ensured their victory. Even as the match slipped away, the Dragons refused to back down, showing heart and potential to build upon for their upcoming match against the Sharks at Rodney Parade.

While the Dragons couldn’t claim a win, fans can be proud of their team’s resilience and glimpse promising signs of what’s to come this season!
