Shocking scenes unfolded as a reckless driver overtook 15 cars at 98mph, resulting in a devastating head-on crash that flipped his VW Golf into the air! Ross Jackson, 26, attempted this hazardous manoeuvre on the A697 near Wooler, leading to a chaotic collision with an Audi Q3 carrying a woman and her mum.

The incident caused severe injuries. The mother in the Audi sustained a fractured sternum and broken ribs, while her daughter, struggling with whiplash, now faces anxiety and PTSD, having even lost her business due to the trauma. She missed a much-anticipated trip to New York for her 50th birthday as a result.

Dashcam footage displayed in court captured the shocking moment Jackson’s car “cartwheeled” after the crash, dramatically landing on its roof. To make things worse, Jackson’s dog was thrown from the car during the chaos and sadly had to be put down due to its injuries.
For his perilous decision, Jackson was sentenced to 28 months in prison and disqualified from driving for three years. The judge condemned his actions as incredibly dangerous, highlighting the “devastating impact” of the crash, which exceeded speeds of 100mph.
While Jackson expressed remorse for his actions and the impact on blameless victims, it is a stark reminder of the consequences of reckless driving. His defender noted that Jackson had no previous offences and described the incident as a “complete aberration”.
Let this be a reminder to drive safely and responsibly to keep our roads safe for everyone. Stay cautious and take care of each other out there!
