🐟 Mystery in Wales as Dead Sharks Found on Beach 🦈

Rhos on Sea visitors were in for a shock when they stumbled upon six dead sharks mysteriously washed up on the shore. Locals tallied up to 10 on the popular Conwy beach. These ocean creatures, identified as smoothhounds or dog sharks, are typically harmless and known for eating crabs.
The picturesque waterfront, recently revamped with multi-million-pound improvements, saw an unusual scene with these carcasses attracting seagulls and beachgoers’ concern. Local resident, Jane Wynne, first noticed something off while taking a walk with her dog. She suspected foul play could be the reason behind this unfortunate event.

An investigation by the Welsh Government’s fisheries department is underway, but with the nets missing, proving illegal fishing might be tricky. This hasn’t stopped residents from voicing their anger and contemplating drastic measures to stop this from happening again. Some are pointing fingers at offshore line nets, while others defend local fishermen just trying to make a living.

Interestingly, the smoothhounds, often served up in fish and chip shops as “rock salmon,” are a flaky-fleshed delight. But seeing them lifeless on our beaches has sparked debate and dismay among the community.
The case has brought the spotlight back on fishing bylaws dating back to the 1960s, which regulate netting in these waters. Given previous incidents with porpoises and cormorants, there’s an ongoing review to prevent further harm to marine life.
As the investigation continues, social media is buzzing with opinions. Some argue against interfering with fishing practices, while others call for stricter regulations to protect our marine inhabitants. What do you think? Is it time to revise our fishing laws or should we respect traditional practices? 💬 Share your thoughts!
