🚒🔥 2025: A Record Year for Wildfires in the UK! 🔥🚒

This year has set a grim milestone with fire crews in England and Wales tackling a whopping 996 wildfires – the highest on record! With the previous high at 994 in 2022, this year is shaping up to be even more intense.

So, what’s causing this fiery surge? A dry spring and four blistering summer heatwaves have fuelled these blazes, pushing fire and rescue teams to their limits. But here’s the real kicker – the number of firefighters has plummeted by 25% since 2008, leaving fewer brave souls to combat these scorching battles.
Phil Garrigan, from the National Fire Chiefs Council, warns of a stretched service: “Fire and rescue services are our national foundation of resilience. Yet, with climate change bringing both wildfires and floods, our crews are needed more than ever.”
Major incidents have already occurred, such as the intense blaze at Holt Heath, Dorset, which required assistance from 47 of the 50 local fire stations. And let’s not forget the fire on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh, which led to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service issuing multiple warnings this year.
With the government mulling over spending decisions, there’s an urgent call for investment in our fire services – in people, equipment, and resources – to ensure communities stay safe amid the mounting threat of climate change.
As cooler months approach, the climate challenges remain. Remember, it’s all hands on deck to support our invaluable fire and rescue heroes. Let’s keep them front of mind and push for the support they need! 🌍💪 #FireSafety #SupportOurFirefighters #ClimateAction
