A conman builder in Wales, Paul Anthony Evans, has been jailed for 12 months. Evans, a 51-year-old from Anglesey, cold-called vulnerable residents and charged them steep prices for poorly done work. His fraudulent schemes, which he initially promised to stop, continued for years despite being under Trading Standards scrutiny.

Trading as P. Evans Home Improvement alongside his son, Evans misled victims with aggressive sales tactics from November 2021 to March 2024. The says his practices violated consumer protection laws, including engaging in unfair and aggressive business practices. With a previous record of similar offences in 2013, the magistrates referred him directly to Crown Court for sentencing.

At Caernarfon Crown Court, Judge Timothy Petts described his actions as “sustained fraudulent aggressive behaviour”. Evans was also ordered to pay over £21,000 in compensation to his victims following his prison term.

Evans’ son, Paul Lennon Evans, faced sentencing for failing to provide cancellation rights and maintain professional diligence. His punishment includes a 36-week suspended sentence, rehabilitation, community service, and compensation payments.

Both men are under Criminal Behaviour Orders preventing them from cold calling, receiving payment before completing work to the client’s satisfaction, and undertaking domestic work on Anglesey without notifying Trading Standards.
