Flags fly at half-mast at RNLI stations across the UK in a poignant tribute to Adrian Brask, a brave Norwegian rescue volunteer. Adrian tragically lost his life trying to save a young girl when a fishing charter boat capsized in the Nappstraumen strait.

Adrian’s dedication as a member of the Norwegian Society for Sea Rescue is remembered warmly by his friends and colleagues. He embodied the spirit of selflessness and courage, personifying the very best traits of those who risk their lives to save others.

Though he lost his life on 26 September, his heroic actions touched many hearts. Sadly, the young girl he tried to rescue is still missing. It’s a stark reminder of the challenges faced by those in search and rescue.
Port Talbot and Porthcawl, along with 238 other RNLI stations, have honoured Adrian with flags at half-mast. Port Talbot RNLI shared a touching message: “Adrian Willyson Brask made the ultimate sacrifice during a rescue operation… His loss deeply affects the global search and rescue community. We stand in unity with our colleagues at RS in mourning him.”
Adrian is remembered as a “driving force and a beacon” within his community. To support his wife and young daughter during this difficult time, a fundraiser has been set up. Friends shared in a translated tribute: “He had a unique heart for others. Everyone who met Adrian felt seen and safe around him; he possessed a remarkable ability to bring people together and foster a sense of community… Adrian dedicated his life to helping others.”
Today, as we reflect on Adrian’s bravery, let’s keep his family in our thoughts and honour the incredible dedication of rescue heroes everywhere.
