Heads up, everyone! This Sunday, 7th September at 3pm, your phone is going to sound a bit different. The Government is running a test of the national emergency alert system. Expect a loud, siren-like alarm and a ten-second vibration to go off on millions of phones and tablets across the UK!
What’s it all about? 🤔 This is just a drill so don’t panic! The system is designed to keep us safe and informed about life-threatening events such as severe floods, wildfires, or extreme storms.
Have a 4G or 5G device? You’ll hear the alarm even if it’s on silent. All you’ve gotta do is swipe or tap to acknowledge the alert, and then you’re good to go!
Driving at the time? 🚗 Safety first! Do not check your phone while driving. Find a safe and legal spot to stop before reading the alert. The AA reminds drivers to keep eyes on the road, ensuring that laws against phone use while driving are respected.
Want to opt-out? It’s simple. If you’d rather not receive these alerts, you can turn them off or keep your phone off during the test. More details on how to opt out can be found on gov.uk.
