A new poll is stirring things up ahead of the Senedd elections on May 7, 2026. The latest numbers are in, and it’s a game-changer. Plaid Cymru, led by Rhun ap Iorwerth, looks set to become the largest party, just shy of a majority. Reform UK is trailing in second place.
In an unexpected twist, the Green Party has surged to third, leaving Labour and the Conservatives tied for fourth. This marks Labour’s lowest point ever at 10% alongside the Conservatives, while Plaid Cymru takes a lead with 37%.
Plaid Cymru’s Deputy Leader, Delyth Jewell, called the poll “momentous,” emphasising that they are close to securing an outright majority. Reform’s Francesca O’Brien remains optimistic, stating, “It’s a snapshot in time…it’s a two-horse race between Reform UK and Plaid Cymru.”
Ken Skates from Labour acknowledged the challenge, saying, “We fight strongest when our backs are against the wall,” while Conservative James Evans described the poll as “frightening,” seeing Plaid’s lead as an existential threat to the Union.
Meanwhile, the Greens’ Anthony Slaughter finds the results “incredibly exciting,” reflecting growing enthusiasm for their campaign. Jane Dodds from the Welsh Liberal Democrats noted it’s just a single poll but welcomed Reform’s dip.
