Armed with a backpack and a paper map (like the ones we rarely use anymore!), Ellie and her adventurous buddy, nicknamed ‘Ramen Noodles’, set out to solve this chilling enigma in Bannau Brycheiniog. With no phone signal to rely on, Ellie was determined to find the wreck using just her untested map skills.

Along their spirited journey, they crossed precarious streams, trekked through breathtaking landscapes, and camped under the stars. They even admired a stunning waterfall, which Ellie called “magical.” Despite a slight detour, caused by a mix-up between Llyn y Fan Fach and Llyn y Fan Fawr, the pair remained undeterred and reached their destination.

When they finally stumbled upon the remnants of the RAF jet, Ellie described the crash site as a “terrifying” reminder of a past tragedy. The aircraft belonged to 21-year-old Officer John Raymond Baldock from Portsmouth, who tragically crashed during a training exercise in 1953.

This incredible adventure was more than just a hike — it was a poignant exploration connecting the past and present amidst the majestic—and sometimes treacherous—Welsh mountains. 🌲⛰️✨
