After nearly two decades, a decision is finally set to be made on a plan for 30 new flats at a former wildlife sanctuary in Rhondda, Cynon Taf. This project, first tabled back in 2007, is revisiting the spotlight as the council’s planning committee gets ready to review it on August 14th.

Originally nixed due to planning policies and road safety concerns, this application took a long pause. But with a fresh twist, this revised proposal is back in action, looking to address the housing demands of the area.

The 🛤️ project would occupy a spot along Gilfach Road, comprising five blocks accessible via a newly planned road. Though the initial plans included six dwellings, these were dropped due to access issues after changes in neighbouring developments.

Previous hurdles with the sewer system have been ironed out, and recommendations have swung in favour of approval. Officials declare the plan aligns well with the current Local Development Plan, forming part of a larger housing allocation without hampering future projects in the area.

Locals haven’t raised any recent objections, but earlier concerns about the green belt and the risk of Tonyrefail merging with Gilfach Goch were brought up by the Community Council. Despite these views, the proposal is slated to make a dent in the local housing shortage.
