🚨 Cold Weather Alert for Dog Owners! 🚨

As winter bites across the UK, dog owners need to be extra cautious before stepping into those frosty outdoor conditions with their furry companions. 🌨️ A vet has sounded a warning: the plummeting temperatures could pose serious risks to certain dogs. ❄️
While some canine friends can handle the chill, it can be downright dangerous for others. The recent snow and ice may have eased, but it’s still bitter out there. So, should your pup be braving the cold? Here’s what you need to know: 🐾

🐶 Dogs do vary in their tolerance to cold. Factors like size and breed make a huge difference. Dr Dave Tweedle breaks it down:
– Above 15°C? Perfectly safe for most.

– Between 7°C and 4°C? Mostly okay, but small, thin-coated pups may need a coat.
– Below 0°C? Smaller dogs, seniors, and thin-coated breeds need extra care!
Temperatures below -12°C are a BIG no-no for all dogs, no matter how fluffy. Stick to quick potty breaks when it’s that cold! 🌬️
⚠️ Be aware of hypothermia symptoms in your pooch: shivering, lethargy, cold paws, or pale gums mean it’s time to warm up and consult your vet immediately.
If your dog gets too cold:
1. Dry them off and bundle them in blankets. 🥶
2. Offer lukewarm water. 🚰
3. Gently warm up the room or vehicle, but avoid hot water bottles!
Stay safe and snug out there, pet parents! 🐕❤️
