What followed was a nightmare of daily abuse, robbed of her teenage years and innocence. By 16, Rubie was pregnant. Her story took a harrowing turn when she tried to escape her ordeal, but was constantly pulled back. Even in the UK, she felt trapped, until a glimmer of hope appeared.
In a moment of courage, Rubie confided in a friend who helped her seek police assistance. This marked the beginning of her path to freedom. Yet even as she broke away from one abusive relationship, she found herself in another — a stark reminder of how cruelty can become a pattern, especially when love is haunted by past traumas.
