With gusts reaching a whopping 70mph, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across most of England and Wales, valid until 6pm on Monday. Whether you’re braving the school run or the daily commute, expect a wet and gusty start to the week.
On Sunday, coastal areas of South West England and Wales were already feeling the force of the winds, and by Monday, these blustery conditions will have spread further inland. If you’re along the Irish Sea coast, get ready for potentially severe gales!
Expect travel delays, powerful waves in coastal areas, and maybe even a few short-term power cuts. The winds will start to calm from the west later on Monday, but until then, it’s going to be a blustery ride.
Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan warns of “a windy and pretty unsettled start” with heavy showers and sunny spells for England and Wales. Even further north, don’t count on the winds to take a backseat just yet.
The week ahead doesn’t look any calmer, with ongoing periods of wind and rain. The ground’s already soggy from recent weather, so be on alert for possible surface water and flooding as the week goes on.
