π Alarming Update on School Staff and Pupils in Wales π

An urgent concern is growing in schools across Wales! Teachers, not trained medical professionals, are stepping up to provide crucial medical care for pupils due to a lack of funding for qualified health staff. From administering medications to managing tracheostomy tubes, staff are overwhelmed and calling for immediate intervention.

A recent survey revealed that 92% of school staff are required to perform medical tasks, often with insufficient training. Laura Doel from NAHT Cymru warns of the potential for dire consequences, stating, “Itβs only a matter of time before something goes very wrong.”

The strain is taking a toll on teaching and learning, with staff frequently pulled away from classes. Headteacher Ceri Hopkins voices the distress, stating, “We are educators, not healthcare professionals. This isnβt about blame but about recognising the dire need for change and proper funding.”
NAHT Cymru is urgently calling on Welsh Government to step up and ensure schools receive the support they need. Education staff care deeply for their students but need proper resources to keep everyone safe. Let’s hope for swift action to protect our children and support our incredible school staff. ππͺ #WelshSchools #SupportOurTeachers #EducationCrisis
