Wales to Introduce Official Certificates for Pregnancy Loss, Offering Recognition and Support for Families

🌼 In a heartfelt move, baby loss certificates are now available in Wales, offering grieving parents a meaningful way to remember their little ones. Previously, this option was only available in England, but thanks to the dedicated efforts of Welsh Government minister Sarah Murphy and MP Claire Hughes, families in Wales can now receive these commemorative certificates.

Claire Hughes, who has been a vocal advocate for this change, expressed her delight: “I’ve pushed for this in both UK Parliament and with the Welsh Government. Finally, we’ve made progress!” The Welsh certificates will be bilingual, aligning with the English scheme that started in 2024.

For those wondering, these certificates can be requested if your pregnancy ends before 24 weeks—or 28 weeks if it ended before October 1, 1992. They are entirely optional and provided for free. Parents will need to provide their NHS number, a phone number, and consent from the other parent.
