π¨ Heads up, beach lovers and athletes! π¨ A sewage alert has been issued for the iconic North Beach in Tenby, Pembrokeshire! πββοΈ Despite this, around 2,700 athletes are gearing up for the challenging Ironman Wales race this weekend.

The triathlon kicks off with a 2.4-mile swim along the beautiful 800m North Beach, known for its stunning sunrise views and limestone cliffs. But before the race, Surfers Against Sewage has raised concerns about recent storm sewage discharges in the area. π±

Itβs not just North Beach that’s affected. Alerts are also in place for nearby Castle Beach, South Beach, and Penally. Recent heavy rains prompted the Met Office to issue a yellow weather warning for Wales, and Natural Resources Wales has flagged 37 areas at risk of flooding. π§οΈ

Despite these challenges, the Ironman event continues! Once out of the water, participants will embark on a 112-mile bike ride through the picturesque Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, passing historic castles and landscapes, including locations from the Harry Potter films! π°
The gruelling day wraps up with a 26.2-mile run through the charming medieval streets of Tenby, back to the scenic seaside. Known for its beauty and toughness, Tenby has earned the nickname “Iron Town” for good reason! πββοΈπ
Let’s cheer on these incredible athletes while staying informed about the local beach conditions. Stay safe, and enjoy the race! ππ
