Cardiff Council is making waves with its bold move to clamp down on junk food and petrol car adverts! 🌟 Joining the ranks with the Vale of Glamorgan, Cardiff has said “no more” to adverts for high-fat, sugary snacks and fossil fuel-powered vehicles. This policy is an exciting step towards promoting healthier lifestyles and cleaning up our air. 🚫🍔🚗

The decision was met with applause from activists, including Badvertising, who praised Cardiff for taking a stand. However, they believe there’s room for improvement. Robbie Gillett from the campaign suggests going further by banning ads from what he dubs “major polluters.” 🌍

Cardiff’s new policy doesn’t stop at food and cars; it also takes on payday loans, E-cigarettes, and vapes. And there’s a fresh approach to alcohol and religious advertising too. While alcohol ads are now to promote healthier options and need pre-approval, religious adverts must be sensitive and embrace the city’s diverse culture.
Cardiff Council’s leader, Cllr Huw Thomas, supports the freedom of speech and diversity this new policy encourages. He celebrates recent campaigns by Islamic Relief during Ramadan and church events for Easter, highlighting the council’s commitment to inclusivity.
