Heads up! There’s big news on council tax for long-term empty homes and second homes in the area. The council has decided to keep the current premium rates for these properties going into 2026/2027. Here’s what you need to know:

🔥 **Long-term empty homes:**
– Up to 24 months empty? A 100% premium applies.

– Empty for 24 to 36 months? That’s a 150% premium.

🏡 **Second homes** will continue to face a 100% premium too!

But wait, there’s more! 🛠️ Two new exceptions aim to encourage buyers to breathe life into empty properties:
1. If you buy an empty property and you’re unrelated to the previous owner, you could dodge the premium for up to three months (or until it’s occupied).
2. If major structural repairs are required, and the previous owner had a Class A exemption, you could be exempt for up to 12 months! Just show proof of the purchase and necessary repairs.

These changes kick in from April 1, 2026, and are designed to help bring life back to vacant homes without hitting buyers with unintended penalties. 🏠💪
