Welsh football legend Jess Fishlock has announced her international retirement. At 38, she’s stepping away after an incredible journey with 165 caps and 48 goals for Wales. Fishlock, who is also the most-capped player and record goalscorer for the Welsh team, will play her final match against Australia at Cardiff City Stadium on October 22.

Reflecting on her career, Jess shared her pride, saying, “After nineteen years and an incredible journey representing my country, I’ve decided that the match against Australia will be my last. From kicking my first ball in Llanrumney to making my debut against Switzerland in 2006, every minute has been a privilege and an honour.”

Fishlock was part of the historic team that became the first Welsh women’s side to reach a major tournament at Euro 2025, marking a high point in her career. “The EUROs was the pinnacle. Seeing the dragon on the world stage is a memory I will cherish for life,” she said.
She deeply thanked teammates, staff, and family, especially her mum for her unwavering support and her wife Tziarra for embracing Welsh culture and always being by her side. She praised the growth of women’s football in Wales, expressing hope for the future stars of the national team.
Jess’s final words echoed her love for her country: “Diolch am bopeth. Thank you to my country.” As she passes on the shirt, she looks forward to supporting the team from the stands, excited to see what the next generation achieves. Let’s give her the celebration she deserves in her farewell match! 🏴👏
