🚨 Big Changes Ahead for Industry Wales! 🚨

In a shake-up that’s got everyone talking, the Welsh Government has announced it will dissolve Industry Wales, a move set to happen by March 2026. With a staggering £10.6m of public funds received and £1.1m in directors’ payouts since 2013, this decision follows some eyebrow-raising accounting issues.

Economy Minister Rebecca Evans made the announcement after a government review and an earlier auditor’s report which flagged some serious irregularities. These included questionable procurement practices and missing evidence for over £1m in assets – including an £836,000 packing line contract tied to a former company director. Yikes! 😳
First Minister Eluned Morgan had noted that the packing line was part of a rapid pandemic response, but the auditor’s concerns couldn’t be overlooked. Now, the government is looking for a new approach, stepping back as sole guarantor and seeking fresh paths for the sector forums linked to Industry Wales.
Minister Evans emphasised the need to reevaluate given the dramatic changes in the economic landscape. Plans are underway to determine new structures, possibly involving new parent bodies, direct support, or self-sufficiency for the forums.
As this unfolds, a big shoutout goes to the dedicated folks at Industry Wales, including Professor Keith Ridgway and all the forums’ members. The impact of this decision is significant and the government is committed to supporting a smooth transition while keeping options open for future governance.
