🏉 Exciting times for Wales Rugby as two sets of sisters from the same club make history by joining the World Cup squad! Nel and Branwen Metcalfe, along with Gwenllian and Alaw Pyrs, are ready to take on the world. It’s a proud moment for Nant Conwy, the grassroots club that nurtured these talented siblings.

The Pyrs sisters have played on the Test stage before, with Alaw debuting last year and prop Gwenllian being a staple for nearly a decade. For the Metcalfe sisters, this World Cup is their chance to perform together at the highest level. Branwen’s determination paid off after leading the U20s and impressing during the Six Nations. Despite her surprise at the call-up, the family’s joy was palpable, as Nel recalls the excitement of Branwen’s World Cup news.

Nel herself shone in Wales’ recent victory over Australia, scoring two tries in their epic win. Now, she’s eager to replicate that success on the World Cup stage. With all eyes on the Wales vs. Scotland clash on August 23rd, Branwen is hopeful for her debut, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
Both sisters are grateful for the unwavering support from Clwb Rygbi Nant Conwy. As Nel puts it, “How far we’ve come now, to think we’re playing for Wales, is just incredible.” Their journey from mixed rugby with boys to representing their country is nothing short of inspirational.
This month’s World Cup promises to be a memorable one, with plenty of support coming from north Wales. Let’s cheer on our talented teams and celebrate the remarkable achievements of these amazing sisters! 🎉👭 #WalesRugby #WorldCup2025 #SistersInSport #NantConwyPride
