Wrexham fans at the Racecourse Ground witnessed a thrilling, albeit tense, 1-0 victory over Oxford United, marking the team’s first home win of the season. A swift and powerful strike from Wales international Nathan Broadhead, in only his second league start since joining for a club-record £7.5m, secured the win for the Red Dragons.

However, the celebration was somewhat overshadowed by a controversial incident involving Callum Doyle. The young defender, a significant signing from Manchester City, was sent off in the 67th minute after a fierce challenge on Oxford’s Siriki Dembele. Opinions are split amongst fans and Wrexham’s manager, Phil Parkinson, who felt the referee acted too hastily with the red card. Speaking post-match, Parkinson expressed his disappointment, suggesting it was Doyle’s first foul and should’ve been met with a yellow card instead.

Social media erupted with mixed reactions. Some fans criticized Doyle’s decision-making, while others voiced frustration at the referee’s decision, citing inconsistency from past matches. Despite the setback, Wrexham’s defence held firm, ending their four-match winless run and climbing to 15th in the league.
Broadhead’s goal further justified his hefty price tag, following his move from Ipswich, and highlighted his growing potential alongside Kieffer Moore. Manager Parkinson praised his team’s resilience and tactical execution, emphasising the physical and strategic prowess on display.
With key players finding form, Wrexham fans have reasons to be optimistic. The team’s grit and determination are starting to shine through, and while Doyle’s red card sparked debate, it hasn’t dampened the excitement of their long-awaited home victory.
