Great news for Welsh rugby fans! π The Welsh Rugby Union’s CEO, Abi Tierney, is making a comeback after taking time off for cancer treatment. Since stepping away from her role on 22 August, Abi has been focused on her health. Now, she’s ready for a phased return to her duties.

Her re-entry comes at a crucial moment as significant changes are underway in Welsh rugby. The WRU is on the brink of overhauling its professional game, including plans to reduce the number of professional teams from four to three. Abi’s leadership will be instrumental during this transformative period.
WRU Chair Richard Collier-Keywood expressed his excitement, saying, “Abi’s return brings strength and continuity at a time of change, and weβre delighted to have her back.” The sentiment is shared across the Welsh rugby community, eager to welcome her back to the fold.

To ensure a smooth transition, Abi will initially work part-time while getting up to speed. Meanwhile, Richard Collier-Keywood and Malcolm Wall will continue to support the executive team, focusing on implementing new strategies for elite rugby in Wales.
Abi remains closely engaged with the leadership team, making this comeback both exciting and well-planned. Her presence will surely bring renewed energy and direction as Welsh rugby navigates through its current evolution.

Join us in welcoming Abi Tierney back! π
