🚴♀️ Olympic legend Dame Laura Kenny has taken to Instagram to address criticism after she was branded an ‘attention seeker’ for sharing photos of her breastfeeding. Laura, a five-time gold medallist and a mum of three, is no stranger to the spotlight, but this time it’s for a cause she truly believes in: normalising breastfeeding in public.
In her heartfelt post, Laura opened up about the support and backlash she’s received. She emphasised how seeing another mum confidently breastfeeding in public changed her life, and she’s hoping her posts can do the same for others. “Breastfeeding can be beautiful, but also hard and isolating,” she shared. “I want to help normalise it, especially in public.”
Laura’s not backing down, even when faced with negativity. “Too many mums stopped because they felt judged, and that honestly breaks my heart. Yes, maybe I am attention seeking – but I’m seeking the attention of other mums who might need to see it’s okay.”
She also celebrated the extension of the National Breastfeeding Helpline, now available 24/7, which the government announced back in April. “I am so pleased to see the helpline extended! All parents can access free, non-judgmental and evidence-based support anytime,” Laura added, highlighting the challenges and triumphs of her own experiences with breastfeeding her three children.
Laura’s message has struck a chord with fellow mums and supporters who rushed to her side in the comments. To her followers, she simply said, “You are incredible. You remind me why these conversations matter.”
