🎃🎩 Cardiff Halloween Festival: Trick or Treat? 🎩🎃

Cardiff Bay’s Halloween Festival kicked off this weekend, but it seems the spooky vibes were more trick than treat for some attendees! Despite the build-up, many visitors left less than bewitched by the event, with comments flying in comparing it to a chaotic Willy Wonka experience.

👻 The Promise: A thrilling ghost ship ride to Alexandra Head with Halloween fun for all ages.
💸 The Reality: £84.90 entry for a family of three, plus extra costs for most activities — from crafting to mazes, everything had a price tag.

Attendees took to social media to vent, describing long waits, unexpected fees, and less-than-spooky decor. One frustrated parent shared, “£18 for a toddler’s pizza fries? It’s outrageous!” Others noted the lack of atmosphere, with actors wandering aimlessly and many attractions still under construction. A dad lamented, “Minimal effort for a Halloween theme – it felt more like Christmas music!”
Despite some perks like a free pumpkin (if you’re lucky to find a whole one!), the overwhelming sentiment was disappointment. Jonathan Higgins commented, “My street decorations are better. Save your cash and have a movie night instead.”
🎭 The Silver Lining: While the event faced significant hiccups, the organisers are striving to improve with more activities like live shows, storytelling, and the much-loved Pumpkin Village remaining accessible.
The festival team has apologised for the teething problems and is working to ensure the rest of the week runs smoothly. If you still plan to attend, it might be wise to manage your expectations — and your wallet!
