He presided over some of the country’s most notable trials, including the infamous Martin Evans case—where an ostrich farm fraudster turned into a drug lord. Diehl’s dedication was unmatched, and his commitment to justice set high standards within the courtroom.
Praised for his meticulous approach, Diehl was not just revered in criminal law, where he made his name, but also in civil matters. From a humble start as a bus-driving lecturer in Sheffield to becoming a formidable QC and a resident judge at Swansea Crown Court, his journey was remarkable.
