The Arthur Jenkins care home in Blaenavon is shutting its doors for good after a turbulent period marked by a police investigation into potential neglect. Following a critical inspection, Torfaen Borough Council intervened and halted new admissions. Unfortunately, despite efforts to improve, it was deemed unsafe, leading to the difficult decision to close.

Cllr David Daniels shared that social workers are working closely with residents and their families to ensure smooth transitions to new homes. Labour Councillor Liam Cowles expressed deep concern, calling the closure “devastating” for all involved.

Traffic Updates
Spectrum Healthcare, which took over the facility in December, gave assurances of improvements, but inspections in August and September showed little progress and further safety concerns. A critical panel meeting on October 14 led to the decision to remove the provider’s registration.

The council is committed to safeguarding vulnerable adults and is reviewing the situation with partners to identify any possible improvements for overseeing care homes in the future.
