Cardiff City fans, there’s a bit of heartbreak to share from London Road as our Bluebirds bow out of the FA Cup in the first round after a tough match against Peterborough United. Harry Leonard’s goal in the first half was the only one needed for the hosts, who seemed more energetic and decisive throughout.
Despite Cardiff having a few chances to equalise, such as Callum Robinson’s missed opportunity following a loose Peterborough pass, the final third just wasn’t firing for us today. Bluebirds manager Brian Barry-Murphy surely left the match fielding a fair share of frustration, with his side unable to really test the Posh keeper, Alex Bass.
In a familiar twist, former Swansea City boss Luke Williams, now at the helm for Peterborough, started his tenure with a win. It might sting a little for Cardiff supporters, especially considering Williams’ history in Welsh derbies.
The second half saw a few sparks for City with Cian Ashford and Rubin Colwill trying to ignite a fightback, but it wasn’t our day. Even with substitutions aiming to inject fresh energy, including Isaak Davies and Yousef Salech, the Bluebirds couldn’t break through Peterborough’s disciplined defence.
