Leading radiographers are sounding the alarm over “unsafe” practices that could endanger both mums and their little ones. Did you know anyone with an ultrasound machine can call themselves a sonographer? 😲
Reports have surfaced about misdiagnoses like blood clots confused with malformed foetuses, resulting in unnecessary miscarriage inductions despite healthy pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies, which can be life-threatening, are also being overlooked. Worse still, serious abnormalities that should have been detected early are being missed!
The Society of Radiographers is urging for tighter regulations, seeking protected job titles to ensure only qualified professionals can perform these critical scans. Katie Thompson, a seasoned sonographer, emphasises the need for each patient to have the assurance that their sonographer is properly trained and registered.
