A peaceful morning took a fiery turn at Govilon Boat Club, located on the gorgeous Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal, when three canal boats were suddenly engulfed in flames. Local fire crews rushed to the scene shortly after 11:15 am, battling towering 10-15ft flames over the picturesque waterway.
Witnesses reported seeing thick black smoke billowing high into the sky. The dramatic blaze was visible from afar, turning this usually serene spot into a scene of emergency. Katharine Skellon, who was present, described the intense scene, noting how the flames threatened nearby boats, leaving everyone on edge.
Thankfully, the flames have now been extinguished, but fire crews remain at the location to ensure everything is under control. Despite the scale of the fire, no ambulances were reported to be on-site, suggesting no immediate injuries.
