ππ§οΈ **Pontyates RFC’s Pitch Submerged by Floods!** π§οΈπ

A downpour has led to dramatic scenes for Pontyates RFC in Carmarthenshire as their rugby pitch became a temporary lake! After the riverbank burst for the first time in 35 years, water completely submerged the field, forcing the club to cancel Tuesday’s training session.

Pontyates RFC’s chairman, Kevin Worth, shared the challenges the club is facing. “The flats opposite us were hit worse, but our pitch turned into a pond overnight. We’ve no match this weekend, thank goodness, but the pitch is a mess with debris everywhere.” Volunteers are gearing up to clean the area, but some of the litter, including cans, poses a risk.
The flooding wasn’t just restricted to the grounds β it crept into the clubhouse too. “Our foyer took the brunt, ruining the carpets,” noted Kevin. “The gym got off lightly, but it’s a headache we didnβt need. Living in a flood plain means insurance isnβt much help, as the excess is through the roof.”
A shoutout to the nearby residents in the flats who faced six inches of water despite having flood barriers. Kevin expressed concern for those without adequate insurance, hoping they get the support needed.
We’re thankful that things have started to dry up, but the community spirit is vital now more than ever to get things back on track. πͺ
Give a shout if you’ve got some time to help with the clean-up or just drop some words of encouragement in the comments! π#PontyatesRFC #CommunitySpirit #RugbyFamily
