Police are urgently searching for 24-year-old Brahim Kaddour-Cherif, an Algerian man mistakenly released from Wandsworth Prison. He was serving a sentence for trespass with intent to steal but has earlier convictions for indecent exposure. He was unexpectedly released last week on October 29, and the error was only reported to the police on November 4.
This incident follows the recent accidental release of migrant Hadush Kebatu from HMP Chelmsford. Questions have been raised regarding the management of foreign nationals in custody. As of the end of September, over 10,700 foreign nationals were housed in UK prisons, making up about 12.3% of the prison population.
Opposition voices are criticising government handling, highlighting concerns over public safety and management of foreign offenders. The call is out to locate Kaddour-Cherif swiftly and prevent any potential threat.
