In a scene that could be straight out of a thriller, people watched in shock as a man with an axe faced off against two cyclists armed with a machete. Isaiah Queeley, 27, was caught on CCTV as he charged out of his home with an axe after the two cyclists showed up wearing balaclavas.
As tensions rose, a shocked bystander witnessed the axe being swung at the cyclists, but Queeley was quickly overpowered. The cyclists emerged unscathed, but the aftermath saw Queeley with lacerations on his arm. The chaos unfolded at 11am in the usually quiet Helen Place.
In court, it was revealed that Queeley, despite surrendering and holding up his hands in defence, had prior convictions. His past includes a traumatic encounter where he was attacked with a machete, which reportedly triggered his response.
