Jonti Richardson-Jones, a 22-year-old with fierce determination, took on The Range in a dramatic showdown over some garden furniture, and emerged victorious! After forking out £2,409 for two New Hampshire grey garden furniture sets in March 2022, Jonti was gutted to see them sagging just weeks after purchase. Despite the added frustration of facing resistance from the retailer, who insisted on multiple assessments at Jonti’s expense, he refused to accept anything less than a full refund.
Armed with patience and confidence, Jonti took the budget retailer to court on 26th September. Representing himself, he won the case, with the judge ordering The Range to reimburse him £2,755.93, covering both the cost of the furniture and additional expenses. On top of the relief from his courtroom victory, Jonti’s TikTok video about his experience has racked up a whopping 41,000 views.
Jonti shared, “Getting that refund was more about the principle. The furniture was in terrible shape, and I wasn’t intimidated by facing a big company in court. I knew the truth was on my side.” His resolve has inspired others who hesitate to stand up against major retailers. “Don’t give up, even if it takes time; you deserve what you paid for,” he urges.
The Range commented on the case, stating they adhered to the court’s decision and highlighted that while they sell thousands of garden furniture sets each year, the majority of customers are satisfied. Still, Jonti isn’t planning a return visit for his next furniture purchase.
