This “family man” brutally assaulted a woman after she turned down his advances for sex, hitting her up to 25 times and leaving her severely bruised and battered. Despite his lawyer’s pleas for a suspended sentence, arguing Small’s role as a stay-at-home dad while his wife supports the family, the judge ruled the crime so severe it warranted immediate custody. Small attempted to deflect blame by claiming self-defence against alleged racial slurs, a claim the jury rejected.
